It’s fine of course to clear the gorse, but spare the Wooing Tree.
Wooing Tree was named after an infamous and rather naughty tree that sits to this day in the middle of the vineyard. It is an old, local landmark and, whilst getting the land ready for vines, the owners realized that there was no way they could chop this tree down. It was part of the land…and now the vines…and had to stay!
That perfect pinot.
The Wooing Tree was established in 2002 and is a family owned and operated vineyard situated in the heart of Cromwell, Central Otago. An area famed for its ravishing pinot noir, of Central Otago, Jancis once said, “Many believe this is where the pinot grail is to be found!” Wooing Tree is nestled in a stunning glacial mountain valley, with Cromwell’s dry climate and cool nights allowing pinot to ripen slowly and develop the layers of complex flavor we adore!
Heaps of love going around in this wine estate and it shows in the glass — you get this great feeling inside of you after just one (or two, or three!) What makes Wooing Tree wines so special what makes these wines special year after year is the fact that each vintage can be totally different to the previous one, creating wines that show vintage variation and don’t taste the same year after year. They evolve and change, just like the seasons. Your palate will thank us for that!
Apart from making wine that we delight in drinking it has become somewhat of an attraction for wedding proposals, unions, a topic for poetry competitions and recently won the peoples choice award at Pinot Palooza!
