An Asian-inspired lovely, light duck canapé you can prepare in under 30 minutes and requires just a few simple ingredients – tasty finger food in a flash. Pair with a New Zealand Riesling.

Ingredients

40 pieces

  • 4 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp Chinese five spice
  • 2 duck breasts, skin on
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 cucumber, sliced into thin rounds
  • 1 bunch cilantro
  • 1 spring onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (optional)

Method

  1. Mix the hoisin sauce and Chinese five spice in a bowl
  2. Score the duck skin diagonally
  3. Marinate the breast in the sauce for 10 minutes
  4. Heat the oil in a non-stick pan over a high heat
  5. Shake the excess marinade from the duck and place in the pan skin-side down
  6. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the skin turns crisp
  7. Turn the heat down to medium, turn the duck over and brush with the remaining marinade until cooked, about 10 minutes
  8. Meanwhile, arrange the cucumber slices on a serving platter
  9. When the duck is cooked, slice thinly and place a piece on top of each of the cucumber slices
  10. Garnish each with a little cilantro, spring onion and sesame seeds
  11. Drizzle with sesame oil
  12. Enjoy with a glass of New Zealand Riesling
