This perfumed Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend shows intense aromatics of blackcurrant, dried herbs, graphite and cedar notes. The rich and concentrated palate of dark fruit combines with balanced mocha oak. Elegantly balanced, and textured with fine grained tannins this wine finishes with excellent mineral length. Distinct and ageworthy with the ability to age gracefully for up to 20 years from vintage in good cellar conditions.

Full-bodied, dark red fruits, violets, plums, blackberry, and new leather; youthful fresh, firm tannins and plenty of acidity, complex. The nose is intriguing, complex, youthful, fruity, familiar. A masculine, youthful and pretty intense bouquet of ripe black and red fruits laced with white smoke, bacon and toasty oak; then red and black fruits, tobacco and pencil.

Winemaker's Notes
2013 was an outstanding Hawke's Bay vintage and will go down in history as one of the region's greatest. Warm, dry and settled conditions prevailed throughout the season allowing picking decisions to be based purely on flavor and balance. Naturally low yielding vines combined with early season “green harvesting” and meticulous canopy management throughout the season have rewarded us with perfect ripeness, flavor development, concentration and tannin maturity. Fruit for this wine was grown entirely in our premium Gimblett Gravels Wine Growing District vineyards where the soil is made up of relatively recent alluvial deposits of gravel with varying degrees of silt and sand. These naturally free-draining, low vigour and “lean” sites combined with detailed vineyard knowledge and the ideal growing season of 2013 has produced a wine of international standard showing intensity, texture and depth of flavor.
