Ostler Caroline’s Pinot Noir 2009
Deep purple colored with crimson hues, brooding aromas of dark berries, undergrowth and spice. A beautifully textural palate displaying classic layering of brambly fruit, exotic spice and seriously ripe, powdery tannins balanced by a good acid spine. Described by of one of the world’s foremost Burgundy pundits as a serious wine driven as much by terroir as fruit.
This is not a wine for the faint-hearted and is testament to the skill and expertise of the vineyard crew that made it.

Winemaker's Notes
From our signature ‘Clos Ostler’ Vineyard, from vines grown on loess soils overlaying solid limestone and marl. Floral – lavender/violet and savory aromatics - underpinned with jazzy dark summer fruit – cherry and plum. Intensely flavored with attractive fruit sweetness and impressive palate. Finishes with a distinctive chalky minerality – very much the Waitaki Valley’s terroir signature. While it retains the complexity, elegance and finesse this label has become known for, this is a ‘big’ pinot for the ultra-cool climate Waitaki. A wine that shows the benefit of several years’ bottle age and while drinking very well indeed now will reward further cellaring.
