Ceres Swansong Pinot Gris 2015 – last bottles
Fragrant, fruity, subtle white spice exotic white fruit and texture to match. The flavors are lush, textural and long with a full mid-palate and fine mineral finish. This wine is drinking superbly now and will also reward cellaring.
"An example of Gris that has a New Zealand stamp on it with aromas and flavours of ripe white fleshed tree and stone fruit with pear and pear skin then Asian pear and white peach; light white spice on the finish with just a hint of sweetness." -Cameron Douglas (MS)
The 2015 season will be one remembered for the exceptional quality of the grapes that were harvested. Overall, a relatively warm season the budburst was characterised by a lack of damaging frosts and warm start. November cooled right off which slowed things down but December was warm during flowering and set. The season was overall pretty dry except for February. This made getting the yields right very challenging and necessitated multiple passes through the vineyards to get the vines properly into balance. January and March were warm months and the region enjoyed a long, dry and warm autumn which finished the grapes to perfection. A compressed harvest followed with quite a tight ripening profile. The wines are shaping up as being exceptional as a result!
