2010 Ostler Blue House Vines Riesling

Waitaki Valley

The third crop from Rob and Pam Crosbie's ‘Blue House' site on the banks of the Otiake river. The wine has excellent finesse and intensity, and a harmonious raciness which is carried through to a sustained and dry finish. Serve as an aperitif, or with more delicate-flavoured seafood dishes

Winemaker's notes

Protracted cool, clear autumn weather meant harvest was very late. In fact we wondered if we would ever pick this wine at all. But ripen they slowly did, and like any good parent we just had to be patient, very patient. So it finally came to pass that we made the call to pick and we finally got a lovely crop of late ripened Riesling into the winery in late May.

The grapes were taken to the winery and whole bunch pressed. Cold settled, racked and then cool fermented in tank until we were happy with the balance. In years like this the “cook til done” principle works best here. We knew the flavours would be a bit more fragile so we deliberately left the alcohol a little lower and the residual sugar smidge higher than previous years.
