Possibly the world’s best Gewurztraminer

The Vinoptima Estate is as much the result of a wine-making tradition handed down from father to son over hundreds of years as it is to Nick’s 40-plus years of winemaking. The vineyard is a must see in Gisborne wine country. The high-rising vines surround the winery that looks like it has been carved from the low surrounding foothills that serve as a suntrap, while protecting the vineyard from cold southerly winds.

Nick Nobilo, a Kiwi Pioneer

Nick Nobilo, owner and winemaker of Vinoptima has seen it all. He’s regarded as a pioneer of the New Zealand wine industry: he was the first Kiwi winemaker to use new French oak for reds and he introduced barrel fermentation for Chardonnays in NZ.

Let’s just say he knows how to make really good Gewurztraminer too.
